Sandburg Halls N. Maryland Ave.

Using home-made(diy) microphones and a freeware sound editing program(audacity) you can make the quiet lull of Milwaukee dorm rooms at 4:00 p.m. sound much more interesting. The dripping and running of faucets create a solemn atmosphere with the drone of the elevator faintly moving in the back. Just as the sound becomes clear a swooping chorus of audacity effects turns a normal sound into something much more interesting.

Laundry vent on N. Maryland Ave.

The vent about 10 yards from the sidewalk protrudes from the ground expelling a warm, scented breeze. Metal flaps rustle, making an unassuming and peacful clatter.

Parking Garage on N. Farwell Ave.

Natural reverb is created in the wide open cement area, which makes the jingling of keys seem like a grand sound. The fan creates a natural sweeping sound as it tries to fill the empty garage.

North Ave. & Lake Dr.

One interesting car conveying religous messages by way of loud speaker awaits a green light. Though the transmission is audible it is being battled by numerous other sounds just as a person's opinion of religion would be contested by others. Editing in repeats of certain sections makes for a more powerful and intersting recording. As the car turns the vocal projection seems to move in slow motion, making sure it is noticed.

Water Fountain off of Lake Dr.

As the water-fountain creates a pulsating backdrop it is often broken by the high pitched yells and screams of children playing nearby. Though these two sounds contrast each other they also resemble one another in dynamics. The combination of water and wind creates a natural pulsating, phaser-like effect. The busy nearby traffic of Lake Dr. goes almost unnoticed.
